We know that we’re only as good as our people, and at Ada Mode, we have an impressive team at the helm. This Humans Behind the AI series aims to highlight the talented individuals that work here. For this month’s edition, we’re featuring Alex Mollison-Ball, Senior Backend Developer at Ada Mode.

What's your role at Ada Mode?
My role at Ada Mode is Senior Backend Developer

What does your average day look like?
Insert the classic no two days are the same at a start-up line! Consistent tasks are meeting with the dev team in the morning to discuss daily work and then working on tasks to connect the data science and front-end sides of the dev team.

What's your favourite thing about working at Ada Mode?
Hard to say just one, but I love the mix of flexible working, engaging problems and how open people are to doing things differently!

What has been your favourite project or challenge you've worked on?
Windscope has been a fantastic introduction to Ada Mode and its AI tech. It's been a big challenge refining the back-end architecture going through several iterations, each with new things to learn and different challenges to overcome.

It seems like everyone at Ada Mode shares the same passion for tech. What about AI technology are you most passionate about?
I'm interested in the logistical challenges of AI tech and looking into how we can improve how the technology is deployed and how we can deliver the results of AI to our customers in a fast and efficient manner.

Where do you see the industry heading in the next 3-5 years?
I see the processes and technology getting more and more abstracted, allowing for more powerful/broader solutions to become available across multiple different sectors.

What's something new you've learned in the past week?
I learnt how technical information is presented in a work bid, something that’s not often seen in my position, and it’s something that’s insightful to the wider context at Ada Mode.

What are your top three books/podcasts?
This Paranormal Life, if you like monster stories and comedy, check this one out!
I thoroughly enjoyed what's been released of A Song of Ice and Fire and am hopeful for the next book soon. Otherwise, I’m not a podcast or book, but the YouTube channel Joshua Weissman has excellent cooking info!
